Steps
Day 1 : your arrival on the Reunion Island
Arrive at the airport, pick up your rental car
Start your adventure on Reunion Island.Heading east, this is the greenest part of your trip, with a multitude of waterfalls and lush vegetation. A stop at the Niagara waterfall in Sainte Suzanne is a must, with its 25-meter-high drop into a basin.
The commune of Saint-André also offers a number of stops, including the Bois Rouge sugar mill and its Savanna distillery, the island's largest Tamil temple, Le Colosse, and the Mariamen temple.
Then head for the Salazie cirque via the RD 48 to reach the village of Hell Bourg, listed as one of France's most beautiful villages.
Stop off at the Voile de la mariée waterfall on the way to the cirque.

After breakfast, you'll set off on foot to discover the village of Hell Bourg, a magnificent Creole village surrounded by greenery.
Depending on your walking ability, you can hike to the famous viewpoint of Trou de fer, starting early in the morning (approx. 5 hrs. return walk).

After breakfast, return to the coast, then head east towards Saint-Benoît. Take Route Nationale 3 towards Plaine des Cafres, and stop off at Plaine des Palmistes, a haven of peace 20 minutes from the east coast.
Depending on the weather, you'll hike to the Cascade Biberon, a 1-hour round trip accessible to all.
Then on to Plaine des Cafres.

Horse ridingDay 4: off you go to see the volcano!
Departure around 7 a.m. is the ideal time to discover the Piton de la Fournaise volcanic massif, one of the world's most active volcanoes. You'll cross the lunar landscape of the Plaine des Sables before arriving at the road's terminus at Pas de Bellecombe, and just ahead stands the majestic king of the Piton de la Fournaise.
You have the option of touring the small Formica Léo crater (approx. 1H return), or the Dolomieu crater (approx. 5H return). After the hike, and depending on the day and opening hours, you can visit the Cité du Volcano to learn more about the history of Réunion Island.

Volcano CityDay 5: explore the southern capital
After breakfast, it's off to Saint-Pierre, with its vast hinterland and ideal location for sightseeing. The town is attracting more and more travellers. Whereas just a few years ago it could be described as a tourist desert, today Saint Pierre attracts many holidaymakers in search of authenticity.
The cosmopolitan town is a pleasant place to live for the locals. Tourism doesn't distort the landscape as much as it does in the West, even though there's plenty to see and do.
Spending a few days here makes good sense. You'll get a glimpse of a different side of the island, and you'll be in a strategic location for a series of discoveries. You'll linger on the lively waterfront with its beautiful beach. Then off to the next guest house.

Day 6: discovering the Wild South.
The day is devoted to exploring the island's wild coastline from site to site. Several stops are possible, starting with Grand Anse beach, one of the island's most beautiful beaches and a well-known postcard with its coconut palms.
Then on to Cascade Langevin, the most beautiful and immense waterfall still accessible. Continue on to the Cap méchant site, and finally arrive at the route des laves.

Hiking through lava tunnelsDay 7: Entre-Deux village
After breakfast, we head for the village of l'Entre-Deux, a pretty, authentic Creole village situated between two rivers, the bras de Cilaos and the bras de la plaine. Then on to the cirque de Cilaos with its famous 400-curve road, where a different panorama awaits you at every turn.

Buggy tourDay 8 : Cilaos
Discover the cirque of Cilaos, at the foot of the Piton des Neiges, the island's highest peak (3070m). This day will be devoted to the many walks and hikes in the village, such as the old thermal baths, the chapel, etc. You can also take advantage of the Thermes de Cilaos, a spa renowned for the quality and richness of its water.
You can also discover the village's handicrafts, with the Maison de la Broderie, and the Cilaos winery.

House of embroideryDay 9: the west coast and its beautiful beaches
After breakfast, head for the west coast, stopping off at Etang Salé, a famous black sand beach. You'll then make a number of stops before reaching your next accommodation, including the Saint-Louis chasm and the Saint-Leu blower.

Day 10 : the piton Maïdo
Early departure from the hotel for the Piton Maïdo, a magnificent panorama of the cirque de Marathe (accessible only on foot).
Return to the coast, where you can relax on one of the island's most beautiful beaches (trou d'eau, l'hermitage, la saline), or take part in one of the many water sports available, such as diving or transparent kayaking.
